The clients were looking for a simple yet soulful design, that would function equally well as a focal point for large family gatherings and parties. We made a feature out of a special central island, creating an inviting pearl-like bar, cupped by two gentle curving worktops.
Whilst there are obvious challenges designing kitchens in small spaces, the same can be said in very large rooms like this. The space needed to be carefully planned to avoid making unnecessary long journeys whilst performing an everyday task, but also the scale of the furniture needs to be appropriate to the room. In this commission, we created zones for the various different activities and dedicated a piece of furniture to it. This creates a very purposeful layout that is effortless and intuitive.
One notable challenge was how to deal with the pillar that was right in the centre of the room. We clad this in a mirror-polished steel tube and then mimicked the shape to form the extractors, turning it into an attractive, yet functional centerpiece.
